Field Trip to City Hall

Today we went to Roseville City Hall.  It was an amazing field trip!

Everyone at City Hall was so gracious to welcome us and spend time helping us learn!  Thank you to the parents for going with us.

Ask you child about his/her favorite part!

We visited the Police department, met a few important people, saw a jail cell and a police car.  We also met a few important people along the way.

Meeting the Police Chief!

Meeting the Police Lieutenant too!

Sitting in a jail cell!

Next we were off to the PublicWorks department.  We saw some huge machines and heard about all the things they do to help our city run smoothly.  We learned about how they make signs for the streets and why they pre-treat the roads with a salt brine.

Learning about how they make signs.

Then we went to the Fire department and learned about all the important parts of a fire truck and medical truck.  They even turned the lights on the truck on for us and showed us how the ladders work.

Last we visited with the Mayor of Roseville.  He told us about his job as mayor and how he works with many people to help make Roseville a great place to live and work.  He told us that you have to be willing to meet a lot of people to be the mayor.

We even got to meet the Mayor!

Achievement Fair

Today is the Brimhall Achievement Fair!  All students have the chance to participate by doing research on a topic of interest.  Many students participate each year.  This year 4 students from our class participated.

We went to see the projects just before lunch.  Each student had the chance to share some important information about their topic with the class.  Thank you to all the participants!  There are many fascinating projects with lots of information.

Greenhouse in Room 109

We have many plants growing in our classroom!  In April, we will officially start our plant unit.  We will be planting grass and brassica plants, one of each for each student.  As a part of the unit, we are observing the different ways plants can start or grow.  It takes a long time for these plants to develop, so we got and early start.  We will be watching them over the next few months!  It will be exciting to check their progress each day.

Math and Plants

This week we have been working really hard on three digit addition.  Most students are working hard to learn the various pieces and steps to solve these types of problems.  We will continue working next week.  Everyone is doing a great job!

This afternoon we did some planting!  Our next science unit is all about plants!  See if your child can tell you what we did with these things.  See if he/she can tell you the ways plants can grow (a cutting, seed or bulb.)
