Post Card Project!

Last week we completed our digital learning experience with Ms. Z in the Library!

Ms. Z does a really great job of explaining what we did and how we did it.  Here is a link to her blog:

Field Day!

On Tuesday afternoon, we had Field Day!  It was pouring rain, so we had to have it inside, which was a fun change and certainly memorable!

There were still the same types of events - hula hoop contest, games and of course the Tug - o - War.  It was loads of fun and we had a treat at the end!

Mill City Museum

What an awesome field trip we had today!  We went to Milly City Museum in Minneapolis!  We did so many cool things and learned so much about history!

Water Lab - We rotated to 4 different stations to learn about different parts of the milling industry.

We learned about the Washburn A. Mill and the horrible explosion!

We got to go out on the observation deck to look out at the Mississippi River and St. Anthony Falls.

After lunch we explored the main exhibit hall!  It was lots of fun to do the scavenger hunt!

Food Drive Assembly!

Thursday afternoon we had our Food Drive Assembly.  During the month of May Brimhall students and staff collected food and other items for the RAHS food shelf.  Our class collected a total of 36 items!  AS an whole school, we donated 1,437 items!  What an awesome contribution!

Postcards from the USA

wE have been working on a special project!  We have used all of our Landmark and Symbol research to create postcard from one specific place.

First we picked our location.  We have learned about many places, so this was a hard choice.  Next, we had to pretend we were at that location and we wrote a postcard to our parents or other relative.  Then, we drew a picture of the location with us in the picture.  The final step was to make a digital presentation!

Yesterday, with Ms. Z in the library, we used a green screen to record us reading our postcard.  There were many steps in the process and we had to work really hard to listen and follow directions carefully.  Then we learned how to insert the background in the video and uploaded using an app called Green Screen.  Ms. Z is putting the finishing touches on and assembling all the videos.  They turned out great and we did it all ourselves!

Researching The Great Lakes

Last week we learned all about The Great Lakes with Ms. Z in the Library.  This was especially exciting because of our proximity to Lake Superior.  This is the last landmark we learn about this year!  After researching, we wrote a paragraph in our Landmark and Symbol book.

Winter Olympian - Lee Stecklein

Wow!  What an opportunity we had today!  Lee Stecklein, 2014 and 2018 Winter Olympian in Women's Hockey came to Brimhall!  She is a graduate of Brimhall too!  She also took a class picture with every class at Brimhall.

She talked to all the classes about her time as a child, her experience on the hockey team and what she is doing now.  One of her points was about having a good attitude in all you do.  You are in control of how you act and react to situations.

She passed around her medal and everyone had a chance to hold it!  It was so awesome!

Thank you to Lee and Ms.Tyrer for making this opportunity possible!
