Read In and Animals in Winter

Today we had a Read In!  We spent part of our morning being cozy and reading.  These kids really love to read and enjoyed every minute!

We also did a little learning about the subnivean zone and about what animals do in winter.  We read the book Over and Under the Snow by Kate Messner.  We also watched a video about a fox hunting for mice under the snow.  It was incredible!

This afternoon we went and learned about motion with Mrs. Kath!  Ask your child about what he/she learned.

PGA Golf Opportunity

This week in Phy. Ed. students had the chance to learn about golf!  Students worked through three stations to learn different aspects and skills in the game of golf.  They worked on big sized hits and small sized hits as well as grip, stance and aim.  Mr. DePrez even put on the velcro suit and let students take aim at him.

It was an awesome experience for our students!

One very lucky student at Brimhall won a set of gold clubs!  It was a student in our class! Congratulations T.T.!

D.E.A.R. and Science Switching

All this week we are having D.E.A.R. times throughout the day. D.E.A.R. stands for Drop Everything And Read.  Today, D.E.A.R. time was during math!  We read through our new vocabulary cards that go with our new unit.

This afternoon we had another science switch with Ms. Gilbertson.  Ask your child about what he/she did with Ms. G.

Spinners

This morning we did a science lesson about spinners.  Student created a spinner using the science materials - a straw, two large discs and two small discs.  They experimented with the design and came up with the idea that placing he discs near the bottom of the straw made the best spinner because it spun fast and for a long time.

Then we used our colored paper discs to experiment with color and motion.  Ask your child what he/she learned.

Ballet Cat and Science Switching

Today in Library Ms. Z read us another Star of the North nominee - Ballet Cat The Totally Secret Secret.  Ask your child what it was about.  See if he/she can retell the story and tell you the theme or author's message.

Then Ms. Z, along with the author Bob Shea, taught us how to draw Ballet Cat.  It was so cool and fun!  Everyone did a great job!  

This afternoon we had a special science lesson with Ms. Kath!  Ask you child about what she did with them and what he/she learned.

Today we went to learn more about balance with Miss Olson.  Ask your child what they made with the items below.  This is a lesson in balance, but also in working on a task even when it is hard or doesn't work out right away.  : )
