Book Character Parade and Reading Assembly

Wow!  What a day we had today!

We started with the Book Character Parade!  There were so many students dressed as their favorite book character!  The Kindergarteners started the parade and as they went passed we all joined in.  We continued to the big gym and had an assembly.

We celebrated the awesome job we all did reading this month.  As a school, we met our goal of reading 1,000,000 minutes.  The Second grade won a popcorn party because we read the most minutes as a grade level in the whole school.  Way to do Second grade!

Because we did such an amazing job reading,  Mrs. Bidne read us The Book with No Pictures by
B. J. Novak.  She also had her hair dyed right in front of us!  It was many different, silly colors!

It was an awesome way to celebrate readin g!

Eek!  There is a mouse in our classroom!

A dog too!

Also a pigeon!

Waiting for the parade!

Drawing for the winner of the Kindle Fire!

Mrs. Bidne came to congratulate us on earning a popcorn party!

Extreme Weather Research

Today we started our Extreme Weather Research with Ms. Z in the library.  In pairs or trios students used Pebble Go to start their research.  Everyone found a few notes for each of the categories we are researching.  It was hard work and everyone did their best!

We will continue our research next week using books!  Stay tuned!

Thank You Bus Driver!

Today we took time to write a note to all of the bus drivers that help our school!  Each student wrote a short note to his/her driver.  Even students who do not ride a bus wrote notes to the drivers that help us on field trips.  Some students have two drivers and decided to write a note to each one.

Students wrote about what makes his/her driver special or why they appreciate him/her.  Each student also drew a picture for his/her driver.

They turned out so sweet!  I am sure the drivers appreciated the thoughtfulness and hard work behind the notes and pictures!

5th Grade Concert

This morning we had quite a treat!  We got to attend the 5th grade music concert.  It was very well done.  We got to see our buddies perform.  We also saw other kids we know from the bus, neighborhood etc.  Mr. Kaiser, the student teacher working with Ms. Liadova conducted one song.  Ask your child about his/her favorite part.

Upcoming Author Visit

We are so lucky!  We have another author coming to Brimhall!

March 15th, author Mo O'Hara is coming to Brimhall to share her talent.  She has written a series of books about a BIG FAT Zombie Goldfish.  So far there are 6 books in the series.  We have been reading the first one in class.  It is pretty funny and is full of twists and turns.

As a part of her visit families can order books to be signed the day she is here.  Please be watching for an oder form next week.

Ask your child about the book!

Practice Research

The past few days we have practiced researching on our own with books and iPads.  We each picked an animal to research.  Then, we decided on some topics we wanted to learn about.  Next, we used books and Pebble Go to research.  We took notes making sure to use our own words, not copy from the book.  We will be ready to do our weather research next week!

100th Day of School

Today was the 100th day of Second Grade!  We did a few special things to celebrate!

We made light bulb crowns to wear reminding everyone that we are 100 days brighter.    This afternoon we wrote about what we will be like when we are 100 years old.  We also illustrated a picture of ourselves at age 100.
