We have been learning about leaders in our community! As a part of this unit, students learn about how to work with the city council in a community. As a part of a lesson, students learn about how the city council makes decisions and about the topics and issues. Students are presented with a fictitious park that is in great need of repair. They are asked to think about possible solutions for the park that center around spending money on services, building something or making a new rule or law. Students have to create posters that would be used at a city council meeting to explain what they think should happen to the park.

Special Dance Assembly
On Friday, March 16th, we had a special assembly! It was all about dane, specifically modern dance.
There were two really interesting parts about their performance! First, they shared about how each of them became involved in dance. Most of them had other plans for their lives such as becoming a lawyer or star athlete.
The other fun part was the very end! They invited students to come on stage to create a modern dance about one of the seasons. Then, they performed it all together.

Writing Project
We started a new writing project this week with Mrs. Erickson. We are using the book Imogene's Antlers for our mentor text, see if your child can tell you about it. I bet you can tell from the cover of the book what the problem is that Imogene faces.

Today we spent time drawing ourselves with a strange and unexpected animal body part. It was so fun to see what the students created! In the coming days we will create our own stories! I will be sure to post the final projects. I know they will be well done and amazing!

Reading with our Buddies!
At the end of the day we had the chance to share our Animal Teaching books with our 5th grade buddies. It was so cool!
We have been working on these books adding a table of contents, chapters, pictures with captions and labels and and about the author page. Our buddies listened to us read and asked us some questions. We ended the time watching Wild Kratts about the Aye Aye. Ask your child about his/herbook!

Character Parade and Reading Assembly!
Today was a big day around Brimhall! It was the Character Parade and Reading Assembly!
We started the day with a All School Dance Party followed by each wing parading down to the large gym for the assembly. It was so fun ot see everyone dressed up as their favorite book character! Everyone was so creative!

Here we are waiting for the parade to start!

Once we got to the gym we did lots of fun things! We found out about the winners for most minutes read in each grade level, most money raised and top reader in the entire school! The top readers in each grade level got to "silly string" their teacher, Mrs. Bidne and Ms. Zbacnik.
Mrs. Bidne read us a story called Too Many Carrots. At the very end, some special prizes were given out! One was a random drawing from all the students who returned the reading calendars. Out of all the students we had the winner in our room. Ask your child about who in our class was lucky enough to win!
