Field Trip - Roseville City Hall

Some of us on the bus on the way to the City Hall.
Today was our field trip to Roseville City Hall.  We were gone all morning!  It was awesome!
Thanks to the volunteers who went with us.
This is a part of the Public Works department.  There were a lot of snowplows and trucks.

Admiring the fire truck.

In the police car on the way to jail...just kidding!
This afternoon when we got back to school we wrote the captions.  Captions are the words that describe what is happening in the pictures.  Enjoy!
We learned about the job of the Mayor and City Council.

Second Grade Concert

Dear Families,

The Second grade will be performing their Spring Concert on April 10th, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. in the large gym at Brimhall School.  We hope you will come to hear us sing and see us dance.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Anderson's class

Today we saw the third grade concert.  Here are some ideas we have for making a concert successful:

- We want to be serious and do our best.

- We want to remember to have a big smile and look like we are having fun!

- We need to be sure we know where to go and where to stand.

- If you make a mistake, go on and pretend it was nothing.

- Transition need to be made quickly and calmly.

- Pay attention to what you are doing and to Ms. Liadova.  You do not want to be the only one still singing or dancing.

- When playing an instrument, pay attention to what you are doing.

Reminders !

Please remember to :

- send the permission form and money back for our field trip to Roseville City Hall.

- wear green on Friday, March 23 for School Spirit Day!  Each grade level is wearing a different color.

As always, please send your child to school with appropriate clothing for the weather.  They do go outside for about 30 minutes each day.  Additionally, sometimes we go outside as an extra reward.

Thank you!

First Day Back!

Today was our first day back after spring break.  It was also a very hot day!  Here are the best things of the day:

5.  In Phy.Ed. we did Cosmic Bowling!  This is when you bowl with a few twinkle lights and a disco ball.  Mrs. Brink and Mr. DePrez turn off the lights if we show good behavior.

4.  The weather was very nice and we enjoyed recess.

3.  We started learning about our government.

2.  We started a new chapter book, Ramona Quimby, age 8 by Beverly Cleary.

1.  We started a new theme in Literacy.  This theme is about people who do work that matters.  This means people who do jobs that help others.

Tomorrow we have an assembly, library and we need to try to return our permission slip for our field trip.  On March 29th we are going to Roseville City Hall.

Spring Read In !

Last Friday was our Read In!  We got to bring books from home and something to cuddle up with while we read.  We read for a long time...45 minutes and then again with a buddy for 30 minutes!  We watched a Bookflix and had a delicious and healthy snack.  It was fun!

We made the blog!

While in the media center last week we read The Princess and her Panther by Wendy Orr.  Ms. Zbacnik interviewed some of us about our thoughts and we made her  media center blog.  Check it out!

Fabulous Fun Filled Friday!

This week was a short week, but we did many fun things.

Today, we had Jump Rope for Heart.  This morning, we jumped rope for one hour.  Jumping rope is a good exercise to do to get your heart pumping and to strengthen it.  We did this to raise awareness of heart disease.  The fun part was that some of us had our name drawn and we got to win a prize.

This afternoon we made animals made out of hearts.  We read My Heart is Like a Zoo by Michael Hall.  The author was very creative in using hearts.  We started learning about similes.  Similes are comparisons using the words like or as.  We felt the project was hard and fun.  It was hard depending on what animal you picked to make.

We also have been learning about balance and motion from all of the second grade teachers.  We learned about how counterweights must be below the balance point to be stable by doing the pencil trick experiment.  We used zoomers ot learn about how we need a force to start something moving.  For example, you need a push or a pull to make something move.  We made another mobile to learn more about balance, weight, balance points and counterweights.  We used tops to learn about balance and making things stable.  We even got to make our own tops with special designs.
