Fotobabble

We worked on a project using an app called fotobabble.  It is a way for you to take pictures and add your voice to it.  With help from Ms. Z, our librarian, each student was able to create their own fotobabble. We wrote an "I Am" poem which allowed us to reflect on who we are and what is important to each of us. Then we drew a picture to represent what we look like at the end of 2nd grade. Last, we created our fotobabble. They turned out so well!

Wednesday

Today we spent some time getting ready for our special afternoon tomorrow with families.  We went through our writing portfolios.

We were very surprised and excited to have all of our writing in one place and to see all of the nest projects we did this year.  We selected one piece as our favorite and write about it.  We also decorated the cover of the portfolio.

We are very excited to share our work with our families tomorrow!  We can hardly wait!

We also earned bubble gum in the classroom!  It was lots of fun to chew while working this afternoon. 

If I Had S'more Time . . .

Yesterday we earned a S'more Party!  First, we enjoyed a real s'more treat, minus the campfire for roasting marshmallows.  It was still delicious and a nice way to end the day.  Then we wrote about what we would do if we had s'more time in 2nd grade.  As we are getting ready for 3rd grade, we are excited and yet feel a little sad to be leaving 2nd grade.  

Thursday!

Today we learned about the Bookawocky program at the Roseville Public Library this summer.

Jennifer came and told students about the program.  It is pretty simple!

June 11th families may pick up an Activity Log from the library.  Next complete the following steps:

1.  Students can read books that are appropriate for their reading level.
2.  Read, write or draw  about one of the books.
3.  Complete 8 activities from the game board inside the log.
4.   Return the log to the library.

Students will earn a Minnesota State Fair ticket, a coupon for Culver's and a free book.

Yesterday we earned lunch outside today!  It was a beautiful day to be outside!  It was lots of fun to be with friends!  We enjoyed visiting with each other, laughing and eating lunch.

Today we earned extra recess and we ate our popsicles from Field Day!  We had a great time!  The popsicles were delicious!  It was great to run and play with friends!

This afternoon was our Field Day!  It was a bit cool but we still had fun!  One person said, "This was the best Field Day ever!"

Mrs. Brink and Mr. DePrez said the second grade did a great job listening and following directions.

Mill City Field Trip

Today we had a great field trip to Mill City Museum!  We learned a lot and had some excellent experiences.

Here are a few highlights:

     - Water equals power and electricity

     - The Washburn A. Mill was the largest in the world.  It is very old.

     - The Mississippi River has one major waterfall - the St. Anthony Waterfall which we could see from the observation deck at the museum.  

     -  Minneapolis means Waterfall + City.

     - The explosion of the mill was caused by flour dust and could be felt as far away as Stillwater.

The river was also used for bringing logs to the sawmills in the area.

Nature Haikus

Thursday we had an opportunity to use the iPads to create something on an app called Haiku Deck.  Tuesday, we went out to look through the school grounds for something beautiful or unique as a part of nature.   Each student took notes about the object and then we came in and wrote haikus about the objects.

Thursday Ms. Zbacnik gave us some instruction about taking photos using the iPad and then we went back to our object and took three pictures.  Next, we logged on to Haiku Deck, uploaded the picture, typed our poem and then published it.  Here are the finished projects!  They all turned out very well and each one highlights the object very well.
