On Wednesday all Second graders had the chance to work with Peyton Russell our Artist in Residence. Students cut the letters for their names and glued them onto a piece of paper that was a contrasting color. It was a challenging task! Students worked hard and almost everyone got one or two letters done. Everyone worked hard! Students will have a chance to finish this project in Art class.

Busy Thursday
Today was a busy day!
Here are three things we did!
Here are three things we did!
In Guided Reading we worked on a Nonfiction features search. We used books about landmarks in the United States to search for things like bold print, glossary and index. We recorded what we found on index cards. We will use what we learned to do research in the coming weeks.
We read Amazing Magnets with a partner in Literacy. It is a nonfiction book about making magnet puppets and stage in order to perform a play.
In Library we read another Star of the North Book. See if your child can tell you about the book. It is a true story!
Oh - and we are reading a new book after recess. This is one of my favorites! Ask your child about it and what has happened so far. This would be a wonderful family read aloud!

Mian Idea Wheel
We have been talking about main idea and writing a good paragraph. We looked at some paragraphs and today we looked at main idea wheels. After studying some and determining the main idea, or what the pictures had in common, we made our own. See if your child can figure out the main idea of each of these. Ask your child about his/her wheel!

Place Value Yahtzee!
Today in math we played Place Value Yahtzee! It was like the real version of Yahtzee but you had specific place value qualifiers to fill such as a number with 3 in the tens place or a number whose digits add up to 11. See if your child can tell you about the game!
We are working on playing games, taking our turn, being patient, staying engaged and playing fairly. With more practice, we will get better.

Daily Word Fun!
Today we started Daily Word Fun!
Each day students will have five problems to solve. The first two are correcting sentences. Errors include capitalization, verb tense and punctuation. It is a bit of a challenge, but no doubt something they can do. The last three problems can be a variety of things from compound word identification, alphabetical order, contractions or analogies. It is a good way to review some basic language skills.

Famous Faces
This morning we had a visit from some famous people in history. All sixth grade students at Brimhall research a famous person, write a speech, find or create a costume and become that person in a real life museum.
These kids did a wonderful job presenting their information and were very engaging in their presentation. Thank you!
