Jump Rope for Heart!

Here are a few snapshots of the Jump Rope for Heart Event!  Ask your child about how it worked and how things went.  It was a super fun way to spend the afternoon!  Thank you for all of your support!

Field Trip: Roseville City Hall

Today was our field trip to Roseville City Hall and City Services!  It was such a fun trip!  Everyone did a great job!

Our first stop was the Police Station where we met the Police Chief, saw a jail cell, saw where police officers do their work and get to check out a police car.













Next we visited the Public Works department.  We learned all about the things they do like repair signs, take care of pipes under the roads and take care of our streets.  Ask your child about the special beet brine!  It looks like Coke!

Our third stop was the Fire Station!  This was really exciting!  While we were there a fire truck returned from a call!  We got to look inside it after learning about some of the parts. 

Our last visit was with the Mayor, Dan Roe, in the City Council Chambers.  He explained how the city works and some of the things a city government does.  He talked how citizens can change things in their city. 



It was a great visit!  Thank you to everyone who was able to join us!  

Star of the North Picture Book Award: Yard Sale

Last week in library Ms. Zbacnik read the last book for the Star of the North Book Award!  We have read all 10 books being nominated this year to win the award. 

Ask your child about this book.  It was an emotional story about a family who has to move and sell most of their belongings.  

I am so impressed with how much these kids love to read!  We have really worked this year to become stronger readers and be able to sustain our reading for longer periods of time. 

Star of the North Book: Their Great Gift

Last week in Library, Ms. Zbacnik did a special book and art lesson with all Brimhall students.  Before reading the book she talked with students about the words courage, sacrifice and hope.  Our class was able to come up with wonderful and meaningful examples of each of the words.

Ms. Zbacnik read the story and talked a little about the meaning of each page and picture.

Last, she asked each student to write about their gift.  Ask your child about what they wrote as his/her gift.  

Social Studies: Learning About Community Leaders

We have been learning about leaders in our community!  As a part of this unit, students learn about how to work with the city council in a community.  As a part of a lesson, students learn about how the city council makes decisions and about the topics and issues.  Students are presented with a fictitious park that is in great need of repair.  They are asked to think about possible solutions for the park that center around spending money on services,  building something or making a new rule or law.  Students have to create posters that would be used at a city council meeting to explain what they think should happen to the park.

Special Dance Assembly

On Friday, March 16th, we had a special assembly!  It was all about dane, specifically modern dance. 

There were two really interesting parts about their performance!  First, they shared about how each of them became involved in dance.  Most of them had other plans for their lives such as becoming a lawyer or star athlete. 

The other fun part was the very end!  They invited students to come on stage to create a modern dance about one of the seasons.  Then, they performed it all together.
