Our First Week of School

Today was the last day of our first week in Second Grade!  It was an awesome week!
Here are the five best things we did this week, selected by the students:

5.  We made paper t-shirts to share about our families, favorite activities and something of our choice that we really like. It was exciting to see what everyone drew.

4.  We had Art today and we had a contest for the tallest tower and coolest tower.  We made the towers out of blocks that connected to each other.

3.  We had Library and met Ms. Zbacnik.  We learned about  Ms. Zbacnik and her family.  We also got to be stars in a video about Library Pride.

2.  We read many, many good books.   A few of our favorites are Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse, Chrysanthemum both by Kevin Henkes, Amazing Grace, No, David, Enemy Pie, and Do Unto Otters.  Ask your child to tell you about these books and the lessons within each one.

1.   We met each other and Mrs. Anderson!  It seems like we have a nice and helpful class.

Everyone says they are coming back on Monday.  Their homework is to read, read, read and play outside.

3.  We did Math!  Yep, on the first day of school!  We talked about the number line, number grid and we used our math journals.

2.  We met Mrs. Anderson.  She shared some interesting information about herself including some things she likes to do and people in her family.

1.  We met each other!  We had lots of chances to talk with our neighbor on the carpet as well as at our desks.  We have many nice kids in our class!

What a day it was and I am sure we will have many more!  I think everyone is tired, well I know the teacher is for sure!  Everyone said they were coming back for more second grade tomorrow!

Last Day of School

Today was our last day of Second Grade!

We started by reading Exclamation Mark by Amy Krouse Rosenthal.
We talked about being ourselves and making new friends in 3rd grade.   We also talked about how being different is not a bad thing.

We we had a special snack and then looked through and signed our 2nd grade Memory Books.   We also wrote in our Special Times in Second Grade about the last few days of school.  It was our very last entry.  We helped
Mrs. Anderson make a sign for the new second graders .  We got our report cards, tests and writing samples and then if was time for one last story.

Mrs. Anderson read Of Thee I Sing by Barak Obama and we shared a few special memories.  We had a dance party and then lined up and got ready to get on the buses.  We all said our goodbyes and then headed outside to go home.  The entire Brimhall Staff waved at all of the buses as they left the parking lot.

Have a fun and safe summer!  Happy Reading!

Showing off our writing skills.

The Last Thursday and Friday of Second Grade

We have been wrapping up Second Grade these past few days.  The end is in sight and some of us would rather look the other way and pretend we can stay in second grade and some are ready for the new hallway, new teachers and of course summer.

We are getting ready for our Reader's Theater Performance next week.  We are making crowns to wear that will help the audience know which part we are reading.

We spent time practicing, reading, practicing, reading and practicing some more!  Today, we had the chance to perform for our class.  We did a good job, but we need to be LOUDER!

This afternoon we looked through all of our writing projects from the entire year.  We had to pick our favorite and write about why we selected that particular one.  Many students wrote about their monster story or the Duck Rabbit writing.

Mill City Museum

Today we visited the Mill City Museum in Minneapolis.  It was a wonderful learning experience and the students were very well behaved as we learned about the history of St. Anthony Falls and milling in this area.  Thank you to the chaperones.  The trip was a success!

Ready to Go!

All Smiles !

After the "Flour Tower" tour we observed
St. Anthony Falls and the Mississippi River.  It was really moving!

Beautiful view !

We spent time exploring the exhibits.

Bubble Gum part 2

Here are a few more pictures from our fun!  It was a great way to end our day!

Bookawocky and Bubble Gum

Today was a big day for us!

This morning we learned about the Bookawocky Summer Reading Program through the Ramsey County Library System.  A Librarian from the Roseville Library came to talk with all of the second graders.

The Bookawocky program is simple.  First, you need to get a bunch of books together you want to read.  Then, go to the Roseville library and get a Bookawocky Reading packet.  As you complete a book, complete a page in the packet.  You can either write or draw about your book.  Some kids even do both!  Then, when you have read four books, return the completed for to the library.  You will receive four special prizes.  See if your child can tell you about the prizes.

Listening and learning about Bookawocky!

She read a new version of the Three Little Pigs!

Look for these things in the Wednesday folders!
All throughout the day we were working on earning the letters to spell the words Bubble Gum by showing Bengal Pride and doing our best.  After working very hard, we earned our reward!  We got to chew bubble gum in school for an entire hour!  First we had to read about Bubble Gum.

Learning about Bubble Gum!

We earned time to chew bubble gum!
This afternoon, we chewed as we drew a picture of what kind of bubble we would blow and then wrote about it!  What Fun!
