Wow! We have not done a post in such a long time! We have a lot to tell you!
We have been studying Egypt. We have learned the Nile river runs from south to north, kids go to school for fewer years than we do and many people eat many small meals in a day.
Today was Hat Day! We got to wear our favorite hat to school!
We have started new Guided Reading groups. Many of us love our new groups!
We had an assembly on Monday. The St. Anthony Brass Quintet performed for us. A brass quintet is five people playing a brass instrument together. J. knew a member of the quintet.
We have been doing an author study on Mo Willems. We think his illustrations are beautiful. They are also humorous and funny. We are going to draw a picture with one of the characters. Today, we watched Knuffle Bunny on bookflix.
We have also learned about Martin Luther King Junior.
In math we have learned about multiplication, division and median. We also practiced using a ruler and measuring in centimeters and inches.
We have learned about the Caldecott Medal with Ms. Zbacnik. The Caldecot medal is given out for the best illustrations in a picture book. The winner for 2012 was A Ball for Daisy.

Wonderous Wednesday
Today we did a lot of hard work.
5. In math we made multiplication books. We each made our own page including a problem and picture. We will combine all of the pages into one book.
4. In Gym, we played a game called Brimhall 500. In the game, you earned points by running around the gym to gather beanbags or rings. Each beanbag or ring equaled 1 point. We worked together in teams.
3. We did another word ladder this morning.
2. Mrs. Howard came and we read our Time for Kids magazine. We learned about Martin Luther King Jr.
1. Tomorrow, Mrs. House is coming to be our substitute. We also will not have our Math MAP test. That will be on Friday.
Have a great night!

Miracle Monday
Today was an amazing day because there were two surprises!
5. We just switched desks! Some of us moved next door, while some of us moved all the way across the classroom. J. is excited about his new desk because he gets to sit alone, which he likes.
4. We celebrated E.'s half birthday and I.'s new sister. We enjoyed two special treats this afternoon.
3. We started a new system in the lunchroom for good behavior. We earned our first star for showing Bengal pride in the lunchroom. We are working toward earning a popcorn party. Only twelve classes will earn one, so we have to earn our 10 stars fast and first.
2. We started reading Frog and Toad books. We started making a list about how Frog and Toad acted, or behaved. We are going to work on comparing and contrasting.
1. Mrs. Anderson told us she was proud of us because we all showed improvement on our MAP reading test from fall to winter!
We need to remember to wear warm clothes on Wednesday and Thursday. The weather is going to start acting like winter!

Funny and Fun Things of the week!
We decided we would write about five awesome things from our week. Here they are . . .
5. Famous Faces - On Friday afternoon we saw many people from history in our building. We learned about so many people including Henry Ford, Princess Diana, Alexander the Great, Walt Disney and
Dr. Seuss. We loved it!
4. In gym this week we got to play Four Corners and learned about jumping rope.
3. In music we learned a new song on the xylophone. It was very hard to play.
2. We read a book about Route 66. Route 66 goes through 8 states.
1. We finished writing and illustrating our stories. We are glad to be done with that project because it was hard work. It was exhausting!
Have a great weekend!

Hopes and Dreams for 2012
At the start of the school year we each wrote a hope or dream for our year in 2nd grade. Today, we spent some time talking about those and revisiting the ideas.
Here are some of our Hopes and Dreams for 2012:
- We hope to learn how to write in cursive.
- We hope to earn a popcorn party for being quiet and respectful in the lunchroom.
- We hope that we continue to make new friends.
- We hope to learn more and get smarter.
- We hope to find more good fit books.
- We hope to go on another field trip.
- We hope one of our classmates is the Bengal Pride winner in the near future.
- We hope to be as smart as the third graders!

As a school we have earned over 10,000 tickets this year. The Second grade has earned the most tickets of any grade level in the school.
All the school staff made a great big circle around all of the students to show us that they are here to help us learn, be safe, be responsible and grow to be a better person.

Terrific Tuesday !
Today we had three artistic opportunities...
1. We made tiger masks to wear to the 10,000 ticket celebration on Wednesday. We are very excited!
2. We made paper flowers this afternoon. It was challenging but with a little help it turned out to be fun. We hung them in the classroom, in the hallway and even in the front office.
3. We had Art this afternoon and tired to paint our landscapes. Mr. Moore said we will do this next time.
Other fun things about today:
- In the Media Center we got to look at new books Ms. Zbacnik purchased for the library. We saw many books we would like to check out in the future. We even made her blog!
- We got to have lunch with Mrs. Anderson as a reward for good behavior during Literacy Workshop.
